Send Datadog alerts to a channel
Connecting Datadog takes about ten minutes. You need a Freesbe admin and someone who can manage integrations and edit monitors in Datadog.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Make the channel first, such as
#app-alerts, and add the people on call. - Pick the monitors. Only monitors that mention the webhook post, so decide which ones are worth a card. Giving them a priority (P1 to P5) sets each card’s severity.
- For the Mute button, you’ll need an API key and an application key with the monitors_read and monitors_downtime scopes.
In Freesbe
Section titled “In Freesbe”- Open Workspace settings → Integrations & apps → Integrations → Monitoring and click Connect under Datadog.
- Name it (Datadog: production), pick the channel and Alerts to post.
- Optional: fill in Datadog site (
https://app.datadoghq.com) and, in API token, both keys asAPI key:application key. - Click Connect Datadog. Copy the Freesbe URL (it’s shown once) and the Payload.
In Datadog
Section titled “In Datadog”- Open Integrations → Webhooks and click New under Webhooks.
- Name it
freesbe, paste the URL in URL and the payload in Payload, and save. - In each monitor that should post, add
@webhook-freesbeto its message. A test notification from the monitor’s Test Notifications posts a card right away.
Split alerts across channels
Section titled “Split alerts across channels”Connect Datadog once per channel, and give each its own webhook name in Datadog, such as
freesbe-db for #dba. Each monitor mentions the webhook of the channel it belongs in.
See Datadog for everything the cards show. If nothing arrives, check the monitor’s message mentions the webhook, then that its priority is at or above Alerts to post.
