Post Opsgenie alerts to a channel
Connecting Opsgenie takes about five minutes. You need a Freesbe admin and an Opsgenie admin (or a team admin, for one team’s alerts).
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Make the channel first, such as
#ops-alerts, and add the people who should follow along. - Decide what’s worth a card. Opsgenie gives alerts P3 unless the tool that sends them says otherwise, so Minor and up posts nearly everything; High and up posts P1 and P2.
- For the buttons, you’ll add an API integration in Opsgenie too, with Read, Create and Update access.
In Freesbe
Section titled “In Freesbe”- Open Workspace settings → Integrations & apps → Integrations → Monitoring and click Connect under Opsgenie.
- Name it (Opsgenie: storefront), pick the channel and Alerts to post.
- Fill in Opsgenie address (
https://northwind.app.opsgenie.com) so cards link to each alert, and optionally the API integration’s key in API token for Acknowledge and Close. - Click Connect Opsgenie and copy the Freesbe URL. It’s shown once.
In Opsgenie
Section titled “In Opsgenie”- Open Settings → Integrations, or a team’s Integrations tab, and add a Webhook integration.
- Paste the URL in Webhook URL and keep Add Alert Description to Payload on.
- Under Alert actions, tick created, acknowledged, closed and note added. Save it and turn it on.
Split alerts across channels
Section titled “Split alerts across channels”Connect Opsgenie once per channel, and add a Webhook integration to each team with its own URL:
for example the Storefront team to #ops-alerts and Data to #data-team.
See Opsgenie for everything the cards show. If nothing arrives, check the integration is turned on and its alert actions are ticked, then that the alerts’ priority is at or above Alerts to post.
